It Is Our Mission
Our program is based on the principle that before working the peripheral parts of the body, the core needs to be strong and stable. We believe in a classical - systematic - integrative approach to Pilates training, where a client has the ability to follow a system of exercises utilizing different apparatus – Mat, Reformer, Chair, Cadillac, Barrels, Ped-o-Pull, and Magic Circle. By teaching in this manner clients will find the connection to their core, which will completely change their body and rid them of chronic weaknesses. By utilizing this systematic approach, teaching becomes much clearer for the instructor; therefore, easier for the client to progress and reap the benefits from a Pilates workout.
Who Is Power Pilates
Power Pilates has been operating since 1989. The company is made up of Founder/President Dr. Howard S. Sichel; Co-Owner/Vice President Susan Moran-Perich; and Co-Directors Bob Liekens, Phoebe Higgins and a strong group of senior level instructors. Combined, they have over 80 years experience in classical Pilates training and were certified in New York by Romana Kryzanowska in the early 1980s. Collectively our knowledge and experience makes our organization and educational programming stronger than any other in the marketplace today. We presently operate studios in New York City, California and Chicago, which staff over 100 Pilates instructors.
Certification Programs…Keep The Integrity Of The Method Alive
Due to our need for quality instructors and our desire to further the classical technique of Joseph Pilates, we established our certification program in 1997 and have certified over 1000 instructors worldwide. Originally the program was taught only in New York, but due to the demand for quality instructors we now have training centers worldwide.
During our unique programs, participants learn the exercises and principles created by Joseph Pilates through a classical - systematic - integrative approach. Classical or "authentic" pertains to the exercises being taught and the vocabulary used to teach them. Systematic pertains to the progression of a session; starting in a horizontal position and progressing to a vertical one (sitting or standing). Integrative pertains to the inclusion of all the apparatus within a session.
Pilates was originally developed with the understanding that the center/core of the body is where the initiation of movement should come from. Flexibility, increased range of motion and a long lean body will result. In addition to learning the exercises, the true education in Pilates is about giving tools to the instructor that enable him/her to understand and communicate the principles that are being taught. In short, learning how to teach by using our easy-to-follow formula for success. Participants in our programs learn the specifics of a balanced workout, develop the eye and ability to recognize proper body mechanics, and learn the methods necessary to work with special case clients (i.e. back, neck, and knee problems).
We believe that learning is an ongoing process and certification is the first step. Once certified, instructors are required to complete continuing education courses through Power Pilates. There is always more to learn. These courses allow instructors to review principles and exercises learned during certification, explore topics not covered during certification, and most importantly, keep the integrity of the method alive. Power Pilates has developed the most extensive continuing education curriculum in the marketplace.
We offer the following certification programs worldwide: Beginner and Intermediate Mat, Comprehensive, 12-Day Intensive, Power Pilates System Training: Levels 1, 2 & 3 and our BRIDGE program for Pilates Instructors who are certified through another organization, yet want to obtain a Power Pilates certification.
We also have the ability to customize a program to fit your specific needs and teach it on-site (host) at your facility.
BEGINNER MAT CERTIFICATION
